94 percent of teachers said they spent their own money on school supplies.
Washington Post story is here.
The average amount spent by a teacher is $522. CPS reimburses us $100 for supplies.
How much do you spend on your classrooms?

Me too--I spend at least $500 (over and above the $100 we get) on supplies. What a shame our colleagues even have to buy their own overhead projectors (which themselves are obsolete in this day and age)!
I spend more than the 100 on average and try to make up the rest by applying for grants. How many times have we all tried the grant route because the school's resources aren't there?
I do not keep track. I make sure I have enough in my budgets to support my spending. Last year it was close to 75k.
I work on getting 50k each year through an internal ETC grant. It is a lot of work but if I want autonomy from begging then it is well worth the effort. My students also apprecite the extra work I put in getting new equipment. I even involve them in the process: some have even asked if I could show them how to find grants for themselves.
Self-actuated learning, maslow maybe?
