The Ratings (Rantings) On LPHS Principal

I have always had mixed opinions of the site Rate My Teacher, but after the happenings at LPHS I thought what could it hurt to take a look.

Here are the cummulative ratings from Rate My Teacher for Principal Karvelas:

TEACHER STATS
Bessie Karvelas
# of Ratings: 32
Popularity Total: 0
Overall Quality: 1.3
Averages are based on a maximum score of 5

Here are comments from students about Principal Karvelas:

10-21-06: "This is the number one school in the state named by Newsweek, number 30 in the country and in the top 5% in the world and this is our principal. I wish I didn't enroll in Lincoln Park."

10-21-06: "i agree, LP is going to hell in a handbasket."

10-18-06: "this woman has created big brother syndrome in LPHS. no one challenges the great karvalas. why do you think all those teachers got axed? they challenged her and maybe humilated her. LPHS=Big Brother."

1-15-06: "can you explain to me how someone so oblivious gets to be an administrator? i mean shes nice if you talk to her, but shes just so...dumb. we're arent 5 years old thank you..."

11-25-05: "cant run school cant tell where money is supposed to go and jipped the perfroming arts."
Comments? Anyone from LPHS out there?

I just LOVE how you completely leave out the positive (or at least not scathing) comments:

12/26/06 - Yall need to stop complaining. She didnt stab nobody, she didnt set no fire. everyone just shut up and deal with it

In response:
5/29/06 - thank you! Karvelas might not be the best principal (Sometimes by A LOT) but she does the best job she can. YOu try running a school of 2200 kids. Imagine the hell that would break loose.

Thanks. So glad you "love" it. So a comment that she didn't "stab nobody" is a sign of how inspiring her leadership is.

I remain underwhelmed. I have problems/questions about sites like "rate my teacher" but what I posted included a link to the original source and gave all readers a chance to make up their own minds.

Still, the fact that her rating is a grand 1.3 out of 5 and that over 800 students signed a petition that questions her judgement about Ms. Eshoo tells me that she has blown any chance of moving Lincoln Park forward.

What was the biggest challenge at LPHS?

In my opinion, it was how they dealt with the population that is not IB or Honors. For years people have criticized how LPHS dealt with the kids from Cabrini, etc. and their rep in that area was not very good.

They were well known for helping the privileged, but not so much when it came to helping the less fortunate.

Kervelas had a chance to do something about it and instead she chose the petty path of intimidation. She could have worked with a staff that had made sacrifices and dedicated themselves to helping all of the kids at LPHS. Instead, she chose to use her power under the AMPS designation to intimidate.

Hardly inspiring.

But then you "loved" my post, so why am I explaining anything?

The "petty path". I feel like JFK and his well known affection for alliteration. Totally unintended by the way.

Pay any price.

Bear any burden.

Yes - you did give the URL to the original site, but you only took the time to copy and paste certain blogs to this site that served your purpose.

If you want to talk about intimidation, let's. How about the icy stares that teachers get from other teachers (supposedly, professionals) at LPHS when they don't agree with the "Bernie camp" as it's called these days? How about the fact that the union members at the school would very much like to hold a new delegate election unopposed? Then, they complain when they actually get opponents for a proper election. Seems like they'd prefer to just sneak in "their" delegate because they only tell certain members of the union about meetings, nominations, etc. And these certain members are the ones that agree with their stance! Tell me how that's fair and not underhanded at all?

Have you been to this school this year? Have you noticed how well run it is compared to previous years? Do you know how much time and energy Karvelas spends trying to bolster up the regular program? Clearly, you don't. Because learning this information doesn't serve your purpose, either.

It's about UNION Seniority. And the lack of not having teacing certs.

If you go back to the schools that B. Karvelas (Amundsen, Curie, Von Humboldt) has been in as a teacher or management, she has left a toxic trail. The staff applauded when she left the elementary school.
Shame of Lincoln Park's LSC for not doing the preventive work in the vetting process to avoid what she relentlessly does to a stable faculty.
Not an idle comment, check out her reputation at the other schools. She's predicable if nothing else.

Check out how those schools did while she was there and how they're doing now, too, while you're at it. I think you'll find that your blog doesn't make as much sense.

Karvelas was in the classroom until Von Humboldt. What's your point?
If there is any justice, LP will be her last school - her conflict-ridden and divisive M.O. has will sink her intended upward career.

So, what about Von Humboldt? Have you compared the test scores from when she was there to now?

She was the rudest person that I have met in my life. When she was at Hubbard HS, she closed her door and got her paycheck. It was a big celebration for Hubbard Faculty when she was OUT of the leadership.

She has a title of Dr.? She is smart! She finished her doctoral degree in three years while working as a full time teacher!. Is it possible?
She has written extensive amount ! (72 PAGES including references?)! You cannot access her dissertation! It is not published on Proquest! Is she scared of something?? Did she really write a dissertation?
